healthcare data to make real impact.
These frustrating realities stem from the industry-wide problem of information asymmetry caused by the siloed nature of healthcare data. However, we are in an unprecedented time to solve this problem because of two fundamental technology shifts. The digitization of data has finally come to healthcare and the advent of cloud computing has given us the ability to securely bring these data together to produce powerful insights.
Minal Patel started his career in healthcare nearly 30 years ago as a medical student. While there have been significant medical advancements over that time period, like complex brain surgeries and promising developments in cancer research, not much has changed around access, cost, and quality of healthcare.
Minal is a serial physician entrepreneur who founded Abacus Insights to serve payer needs around data integration and insight generation. Prior to this he has held senior roles at payer organizations most recently serving as SVP and Chief Strategy Officer of Horizon BCBSNJ.
His entrepreneurial experience includes founding Care Management International, a pioneer in leveraging offshore clinical talent to support payer clinical functions, which was successfully sold to iHealth Technologies – now Cotiviti (COTV) – and Vayu Technologies, a telecommunications platform developed by Bell Labs and spun out and sold to SeniorLink. He holds a BA and an MD from Boston University and an MPH from Harvard School of Public Health and completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital where he served as a staff physician and faculty at Harvard Medical School for nearly a decade. He has also served as an associate with McKinsey and Company. Outside of the office, Minal spends time with his wife and two sons, skiing in the winter and trying to play golf in the summer.
Gokul joined Abacus as one of its initial leaders to drive the product and business alliances strategy. He currently serves as VP of Client Solutions for Abacus. He is a seasoned Payer business and technology operations executive, with over 12 years of experience in Payer Strategy and Operations roles.
Prior to Abacus, Gokul led major strategic initiatives at Horizon BCBSNJ to enable the organization’s successful push towards Fee for Value in New Jersey. He was also part of the Booz and Co. (now PWC) core Payer team that helped clients successfully navigate and transform their business models to thrive post-ACA (Affordable Care Act). He holds an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University and an undergraduate degree in Electronics Engineering from Anna University, India.
As CFO of Abacus Insights, Larry has over 35 years as a financial executive, venture capitalist, and public and private company board member. His expertise includes scaling finance and IT infrastructure, driving successful strategic and IPO exits, growing human capital, and managing investor relations.
Prior to joining Abacus Larry was the CFO of CloudHealth Technologies which sold to VMware for $535m just 5 years after its founding. He co-founded .406 Ventures, a B2B enterprise VC fund investing in Healthcare IT, Big Data, Cloud and Cybersecurity companies. While at .406, he led the Fund’s Series A investment into CloudHealth and, 3 years prior to CloudHealth’s exit, he joined the company as its CFO. He was also the CFO and a partner at The Boston Consulting Group for 8 years as the company grew from $100m in revenue to over $550m. He has served on the board of directors of 5 public and 12 private companies. Larry holds an undergraduate degree from Boston College and an MBA from Babson College. In his spare time he enjoys time with his wife and two children, travel, and trying to keep his golf handicap under 30.
Navdeep is the Chief Technology Officer at Abacus Insights, overseeing the technical development of the Abacus platform, including the ability to further scale the architecture, data management, interoperability, analytics, and secure cloud computing.
Navdeep brings over 20 years of engineering experience, a decade of which was building scalable data, analytics, and AI/ML cloud platforms for social media, telecommunication, and healthcare enterprises. Building platforms that can find the signal from the noise, churning through massive amounts of data and delivering results and outcomes fast enough to be meaningful and impactful has been driving his career for startups and multi-billion-dollar companies alike.
As VP of People and Culture, Jaclyn brings over 10 years’ experience as a People Strategy leader focused on creating an environment and community that attracts, develops, and retains top talent. Her expertise in building and leading high-performing teams, establishing the People Strategy function from scratch
Prior to joining Abacus, Jaclyn has held leadership roles at some of Boston’s fastest-growing technology companies where she was able to build and develop people programs and initiatives that drove culture and engagement to attract talent in extremely competitive markets. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Merrimack College, and is a Senior Certified Professional with the Society of Human Resource Management. In her spare time, Jaclyn enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and cheering on all of the New England sports teams.
Sumant is Chief Product Officer and Operations Leader at Abacus Insights. He has spent his career designing, building and launching products at start-up, mid-size and Fortune 1000 companies. He has the most fun creating large enterprise analytics solutions working closely with clients and teams.
In this role he manages the company’s ongoing expansion into emerging markets.Prior to joining Abacus, Sumant served as Senior Vice President at Cotiviti where he was instrumental in consolidating operations and growing revenues for Performance Management, HEDIS, and Provider Networks during a five-year period. While there, he oversaw the design and development of a data ecosystem, Caspian, which he grew to become one of the industries’ largest and most comprehensive healthcare data lakes. Sumant was also part of the early team that successfully scaled Scio Health Analytics from an early start-up to a major player within the Population Health and Payment Integrity space. Sumant holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, and an undergraduate degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of Madras. In his free time, Sumant enjoys spending time hiking, reading and playing the guitar when he can.
